Introduction
The majority of the worlds population are economically active and have to earn a living, spending at least one third of their time at the workplace. Fair employment and decent work are important social determinants of health, and a healthy workforce is an essential prerequisite for productivity and economic development. In spite of the fact that many people spend most of their time at work, only a small proportion of the global workforce has access to occupational health services for primary prevention and control of occupational and work-related diseases and injuries. Certain global health problems, such as Non-Communicable Diseases NICDs result in increasing rates of long-term illness, which cause absence from work. These problems challenge health systems ability to preserve and restore the capacity of workers to remain economically active WHO 20138.

The World Health Organizations Global Plan of Action on Workers Health 2008- 2017 states that workers represent half the worlds population and that they are major contributors to economic development. It calls for effective interventions to prevent occupational hazards and to protect and promote health at the workplace and access to occupational health services.
