When I was younger, I disliked food or drinks that are sweet, fizzy, sour or bitter and prefer those which are salty savory. We often associate aging with wrinkles, aches and pain, but I think a more subtle change thats taking place is our taste buds. I love my soups boiling hot, and Im sure the scalding liquid has constantly killed some of my buds and changed some flavors of the things I eat. Our taste receptors are also likely to be affected by factors like dental problems certain medications. Its interesting to note that our ability to distinguish tastes is also to keep us alive - our taste buds will tell our brain whether to swallow whats already in our mouth. Come to think of it, more people should eat not with their taste buds but with their brains.
