Dr Calvin Howard

Dr Calvin Howard is a young, dynamic and enthusiastic general practitioner, with a special interests in Sports and Exercise Medicine SEM, preventative medicine, health education and mental health. He believes in a patient centred, holistic approach, covering health from every angle, ensuring that treatment is targeted and purpose-driven.

With experience in sports medicine and orthopeadics, understanding and treating the musculoskeletal system is Dr Calvins chosen art form, living by the mantra movement is life and encourages his patients to join his initiative Run With A Doc to build strength and community.

Dr Calvin obtained his MBChB degree from the University of the Free State, he is driven to continuous learning and striving for excellence in the field of sports medicine. He is committed to practising evidence-based medicine.

From completing his internship and community service years in Nelspruit, Dr Calvin gained invaluable experience in the fields of both surgical and non-surgical orthopedics. Dr Calvin has worked in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery and Otolaryngology ENT.

His passion for sport, both as an athlete and as an aspiring Sports Physician, Dr Calvin dedicates his spare time to furthering his knowledge and experience in the field. This has lead to him being involved in continuous education in the field of SEM, completing courses in musculoskeletal ultrasound, a Diploma in sports medicine and has applied to enrol in the Masters MSc of Sport and Exercise Medicine 2023.

Dr Calvins love for the outdoors doesnt stop at sport. He has a burning passion for all things wild. Dr Calvin was a conservation volunteer at Phinda Game Reserve,KZN, for a period in 2021, where he assisted conservationists and veterinarians in their daily tasks of ensuring the health and safety of South Africas land animals. He completed his Aviation Healthcare Professionals course in 2021 and plans on exploring the field of Undersea And Hyperbaric Medicine, with his new life down in Plettenberg bay.
