It has to be said that the iconic places in Botswana are filled by either Salt Pans, Baobabs or rivers, on this tour we visit places that include all 3 of these icons. The tour spans over 11 days where we explore the many Salt Pans of this country in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve CKGR, Makgadikgadi pans and Nxai Pan National Park where we spend the night overlooking the infamous Baines Baobab.

This is a tour for the laid back type of traveller who wants to take in the sights of vast landscapes and wonderful wildlife at the same time. The tour is designed to showcase the beauty that this special country has to offer.

We will start our journey at our meeting point in South Africa, Matamba Bush camp which is not too far from the border. An evening around the fire for our first meet and greet before we head off into Botswana for our first nights camp.

We will gradually make our way in a Northerly direction visiting places like the CKGR, Khumaga, Nxai Pan including Baines Baobab. Named after the famous painter and explorer Thomas Baines in 1862.These group of Baobabs are known as the sleeping sisters. Baines Baobab overlooks Kaudia Camp Pan on the South side of the Nxai South camp. Although the pans at Baines Baobab are dry for most of the year, the area is transformed into a massive sheet of water during rainy season and the abundance water beds creating spectacles of great beauty.

Now heading in a Southerly direction where we will cross in mighty Makgadikgadi pans ending up on the remote island in its centre known as Kubu Island. It is said that these salt pans are so vast that one can actually see the curvature of the earth when gazing into the distance. A special place filled with mystery, history and cultural wonder. Sunrises and sunsets across these pans make for photographers dream landscape pictures.
