Meet the Fairtree Family - The individuals that make up the whole.

Clarissa joined Fairtree in 2017 and currently co-manages two hedge funds with Stephen Brown. The first is a segregated fund, and the second is The Silver Oak Retail Hedge Fund which launched in April 2022. The funds are long-short equity hedge funds invested in South African equities. I was extremely impressed both with the teams competence, as well as their humbleness. I noticed that the Fairtree team was passionate about markets and that the company culture was friendly and supportive. When Stephen Brown asked me to join him to assist on the Assegai fund, it was an easy decision to join Fairtree.

Why I love what I do I think fund management is an incredibly interesting and satisfying, if demanding, career! As a portfolio manager, one needs to consider the macroeconomic environment and how global events affect both the economy and markets. One needs to consider wars, pandemics, inflation, interest rates, population dynamics, political outcomes and many other macroeconomic factors, as well as the bottom-up fundamentals of the companies we analyse and invest in. There is so much to consider and to learn, which makes the job fascinating.
