ABOUT TELS INTERACTIVE SERIES

Growing insecurity and failing governance in Africa have resonated debates on the nexus between governance and security as a unitary concept or complementary reality. Indeed, central to the intervening variables of governance and security resulting from proactive or reactive decisions is leadership. The exclusive Experiential Leadership Series ELS is aimed at deepening understanding and approaches to resolving internal challenges in Africa from a pragmatic lens. The strategic African approach with a global outlook, provides a consistent platform to link experiential leadership and intellectual discourse to influence policy making and implementation. By hosting a former President or current Head of Government from within or outside Africa for a open interactive session, the platform serves as a rich resource and real-time advisory mechanism to unpack challenges associated with governance and security, how it was and should be managed by the principal actor as it relates to country specific and Africa in general with actionable strategies to challenge and influence decision making and interventions on contemporary threats. Drawing from shared, or sometimes exclusive challenges that vary from one country to another the experiences of past leaders particularly besides back-channel advise or election monitoring especially in Africa cannot be overemphasized. While the ELS broadly affords the opportunity to share consistent lessons that are based on experiences, it specifically interrogates recurring issues as they affect internal stability such as the disconnect between early warning and early response in decision making, and the dynamics of how internal problems shape regional and international relations and vice versa among other evolving thematic. To further enhance intellectual discourse and programmatic interventions, researchers, experts, development actors, the private sector, policy makers, policy implementers, activists, civil society practitioners, politicians, entrepreneurs, members of the security forces, youths and students among other critical stakeholders are afforded first-hand information from the principal actor through the engaging confabs. The products of the Series are to be presented to key stakeholders to markedly contribute to knowledge and practice around statecraft, leadership, human security, governance, socio-economic development, political ideology, international relations, and conflict transformation.
The hybrid inaugural event from Maputo, Mozambique with virtual live interactive session will host the Chairperson of the Forum of Africa former Heads of States and Government and former President of Mozambique, President Joaquim Alberto CHISSANO.
