BETWEEN NATIONAL SECURITY AND 2023 ELECTIONS
As the nation gears up for the 2023 general elections, it is pertinent to counsel that the current national security concerns hovering over the nation is more pressing than the elections.
As things stand today, the political leadership of the country must not concentrate only on permutations on the 2023 elections to the detriment of urgent National Security concerns.
It is important to state that we must have a Nation first before we talk of election and our people must be alive and safe first to be able to vote.
According to a media report quoting the Beacon Consulting, a security risk management and intelligence consulting company, banditry and terrorist attacks have escalated across Nigeria, leading to the death of 7,222 persons and abduction of 3,823 others in the past seven months.
I wish to also add that presently, the Barbarians are at the gate of our Capital, our Republic is under threat, our tested ways of life, pluralism, Democracy, State secularism are about to be imperiled.
It is important to note that the clock is ticking, time is running out and the forces of evil are set to take the Capital.
In the past two years, I have spoken on the Nations security challenges and offered concrete suggestions on how to confront them, but all suggestions have been ignored.
Specifically, on the 10th of August 2021, I listed a six point agenda as a pathway to security and peace in the country, some of which include the establishment of a Defence Co-operation Agreement DCA with a friendly nation to halt the enemys advance creating the framework for States and Local Governments to have their own police allowing States and Local Governments to provide efficient security at Local levels.
Also on February 5, 2022, I warned that, for the sacrifices and efforts of our gallant soldiers not to be in vain, it is time for the nation to construct a new Defence and Security Architecture to permanently destroy the seed of terror and uproot banditrykidnapping across the country.
I also noted then in April, that with all manners of armed groups within two-hour drive to Abuja, the nations seat of power, from Niger and Kaduna, the government should not downplay the alarm raised by Governor Zulum of Borno on the growing number of ISWAP fighters in the country.
Sadly, none of the major Presidential candidates have addressed the security concerns in a manner that shows they even have a grasp of this NEW WARS.
Those of them who have substantial influence on the machinery of Government, have not brought such influence to bear on Government, for the nation to have the desired outcomes.
If anything, their politics is driven by what they can get for themselves. Everyone is hoping that through wishful thinking these threats will be handled until May 29 when they will emerge as President.
Anyway, the threats will not vanish the deaths of citizens is happening now, the horror of mass rape is now. May 2023 date is too far for these to continue.
But, now is the time for patriots, statesmen and friends of Nigeria to rally and defend the Ideals of our Republic, the Ideals of Peace, and the Ideals of modernity and Civilization.
It is an understatement to say, we are at a very critical stage in our history when terrorist forces have technically surrounded our nations capital highlighting the severity of our national security challenge.
It is sad that, despite the offensive of the military to clean up the bushes in the capital, the axis surrounding the capital are still in the hands of the enemy.
In spite of all these, however, we must never ever surrender through inaction, limited action or wrong and slow response to the urgent threat confronting our father land!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
