THE MAN, AMITY AGI IJUWO AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HIS DESIRE TO SERVE THE PEOPLE OF OJU 1 STATE CONSTITUENCY AT THE BSHOA IN 2023.

Like the gold fish with no hiding place, the man, Amity Agi Ijuwo, a towering giant in the Nigerian banking sector and the Benue administrative space needs no introduction.

Born to the humble but noble family of Adada, Ijuwo Idoko Ijuwo, and Ma Jane Anya Idoko nee Udanyi in 1964 at Ega Ibilla, Oju L.G.A of Benue State, his four years of primary schooling were shared between Methodist Primary School, Ameka Owo 1974-1976 and Ibilla Central Primary School from where he obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1978.

After that, his parents who foresaw that the future of their child laid in sound education enrolled him amongst the pioneer students at the Government Secondary School, Ikachi, from 1978 to 1981. He proceeded from there to GSS Otukpo where he obtained his SSCE in 1983. Leadership as an inherent trait in Amity was discovered early by his teachers when they appointed him as the pioneer deputy head-boy, GSS Ikachi, and later, the health prefect, GSS Otukpo.

At that time, a secondary certificate was enough to earn a living, but Amity was not the one to settle for less. His insatiable quest for knowledge took him to the School of Basic Studies, Makurdi between 1983 and 1985 where he obtained the IJMB A levels certificate which secured him an admission for undergraduate studies at the prestigious Amadu Bello University, Zaria in 1985. By the time he completed his studies in 1988, earning him a bachelors degree in accountancy, his constant hunger for more feats remained unsatisfied. He however, needed to put the knowledge already acquired into practice by impacting the banking sector while putting food on his table before returning to the classroom between 2007 and 2009 to bag a Masters of Business Administration MBA in Banking and Finance from the Benue State University, Makurdi.

For a man destined for the very top, Amity believed that a living being has no limit to the acquisition of knowledge. It was this belief that propelled the addition of many more professional feathers to his noble cap.

He has since qualified as a chattered accountant, ACA 2000, A Chattered Banker, ACIB 2001, and admitted as a full member, Nigerian Institute of Management Chattered MNIM in 2003.

Further qualifications include A Fellow of the Institute of Chattered Accountants, FCA 2012, a Fellow of Chattered Bankers of Nigeria, FCIB 2014, and a Certified Forensic Accountant of Nigeria, CFAN in 2017.

Amity Agi Ijuwo had an illustrious career which spanned from the financial sector, political space and humanitarian services.

That glorious run kick-started at NNPC, Maiduguri where he was posted for his compulsory national youth service in 1988. Upon diligently completing his service to the nation in 1989, his glaring brilliance was courted by many financial institutions out of which the Peoples Bank of Nigeria won his signature as a branch manager, area accountant and state representative, a position he held until 1994 when the defunct bank of the North Ltd. came knocking with a more engaging offer. Being a man that is always poised for a new challenge or a learning opportunity, he accepted that offer and worked there first, as an officer before series of promotions to the positions of a bank inspector, a team leader and then full fledged bank manager.

By 2005, he had set his mark and given his very best to the bank, and their cordial relationship reached its apogee. He needed the new energy that comes with a fresh challenge. That urge persuaded him to resign from his position as a Manager at the bank of the North on a very good note. He thereafter accepted an offer from WEMA bank Makurdi as the business manager between 2005 and 2010.

Haven dotted all the is and crossed the ts in the banking industry, Amity Ijuwo ventured into private practice by partnering the establishment of Okaha Consulting Ltd., an engineering, accounting, banking ,finance and management consultancy services company co-owned by himself and his lovely wife. This he invested his time and resources between 2010 and 2016 when his wealth of experience was again needed in building the economy of his dear State. Thus, he took up an appointment as general manager, audit and control, Benue Investment and Property Company BIPC in 2016 to 2019 before returning to his passion in Okaha Consulting Ltd as a managing partner till date.
He is also a managing partner, Amity Agi Ijuwo and Co. Chattered Accountants 2020 till date, the proprietor, Anyale Resources Ltd., and Okaha Agric business Ltd.

Haven been a product of Gods blessings over time and also favoured by men that God directed his way, he deemed it fit to give back to the society by establishing an academic community at the heart of Oju, his local government headquarters that houses a primary, secondary and tertiary institutions namely Okaha kids Academy, Okaha College, and Okaha Polytechnic. Okaha schools have since grown to become a citadel of academic excellence from where people have graduated to record great success in their various endeavours.

His sagacity in different spheres of life also placed some responsibilities on him at one point or the other. He was the chairman, Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, Benue State Chapter, 2012 to 2016 and a council member of the institute, in Nigeria from 2014 to 2016. He was also the Chairman, Makurdi and District Society, Institute of Chattered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN between 2016 and 2018. He is presently a member, board of trustees, J S Tarka University, Makurdi Endowment Fund.

Amity Ijuwo is well read, has written a number of books and attended a plethora of courses, seminars, and workshops from I989 till date.

His hobbies are reading and researching. He is a Christian by faith, and happily married to Joy Aricha Ijuwo, he is blessed with four lovely award winning children.

He offers himself for service to the people of Oju 1 State Constituency at the Benue State House of Assembly, as he contests for the sit in the 2023 Nigerian general elections.

Amity Agi Ijuwo is eminently qualified, and it is his ernest desire to bring his wealth of experience to bear in helping to place the constituency on the global map through quality representation.
